The CRS-311 1:1 Redundancy Switch is a companion to the Comtech EF Data SLM-5650 Satellite Modem. A CRS-281 IF redundancy module provides Tx 70/140 MHz or L-Band backup.
The 1:1 controller is within the CRS-311 and provides control and drive signals for all switching. This unit continuously monitors a pair of modems so that, in the event of an equipment failure (or an undesired traffic condition), the subsystem automatically replaces the failed unit with the standby unit.
Their purpose is to continuously monitor a pair of modems in a redundant configuration, so that the unit automatically switches data and IF signals from the primary unit to the standby unit if an equipment failure or undesired traffic condition occur. This fully protects traffic paths, and the operator can have increased confidence that equipment failures will not adversely affect system availability.
The Evolution Modem Redundancy Switch system offers a revolutionary approach to Modem Redundancy Protection by integrating the Backup Modem and 1:N Redundancy Controller into a single unit. The Backup Modem / Controller becomes a 3RU high 19 inch chassis, which incorporates the traffic and overhead interface connectors necessary to support the online Modem group. This low cost and compact 1:N scheme employs proven integrated 1:1 Redundancy technology pioneered by Paradise Datacom.
