BUC Accessories

Codan Satellite equipment has been setting the industry standards for performance and reliability since the early 1990s. However, there are certain critical applications where 1:1 redundancy protection may be required. Codan offers a range of switching equipment that integrates easily with the 6700 series C-Band or the 6900 series Ku-Band BUCs. The systems include interconnecting cables, mounting hardware and waveguide components.

The redundancy kits can be confirgured tfor Tx/Rx redundancy or Tx only.

The 7586 Controller provides integral IF switching and simultaneously controls the RF switches in a redundant BUC system.

The 7580 is a 700 W heavy-duty SMPS suitable for BUCs up to 40 W Ku-Band and 100 W C-Band. Designed for boom mounting on the antenna, the 7580 uses the same mounting brackets as the BUCs and weighs only 2.8 kg. The SMPS is fully sealed to IP65 standard, and is fan cooled. It has Main and Auxiliary MS-type DC output connectors for externally-powered BUCs and accessories.

The Hand Held Controller 6560 may be connected directly to the BUC or to the Redundancy Controller 6586 to provide local control of the BUCs and/or the Redundancy Controller.

The Remote Controller 6570 provides system status indication and remote manual control over both BUCs and redundancy stream selection.

The BUC Power Supply 6580 injects 48V DC into the BUC and blocks and DC voltage present on the IF cable but passes the 10MHz reference, FSK M&C signals and the L-Band IF Frequency. The 6580 is waterproof and may be located outdoors near the BUC.

The 48V DC output is also available by a terminal block in the 6580 to ensure connection of BUCs powered via the optional external DC connector.

The 6550 IF Interface Unit is the ideal solution for BUC operation with modems that cannot provide DC or 10MHz reference. The 6550 IF Interface unit is a 1RU indoor mount unit with features such as:

  • Indoor fault status monitoring
  • Provides 48V DC on Tx IF Cable
  • Provided 15V DC to LNB
  • Provides 10MHz reference to the BUC and LNB

Allows M&C via FSK to the BUC on the IF Cable.

The addition of a Bias Tee allows a 10 Watt or 20 Watt C-Band BUC and a 8 Watt or 10 Watt Ku-Band BUC to be powered through the IF cable. The Bias Tee is capable of handling operating currents of up to 6 Amps at 48 VDC.

The Paradise Datacom family of VSAT products can be configured in a variety of custom systems to meet any redundant system application. VSAT redundant systems can be configured to meet any output power level from 2W to 100W in Ku-Band or 5W to 170W in C-Band. Creative application of the versatile RCPD-1100 system controller enables redundant system designs that provide the highest levels of system reliability while remaining cost effective.
